We are a couple of months into the season now and to be honest, I’ve had a load on and haven’t been paying too much attention except to watch my beloved Manchester United. Man and boy and all that, and for the detractors -yes I’m from Manchester and support Manchester United … yawn. As does the majority of this city which is evidenced by the record crowds we have attracted for decades and not just sine the prawn sandwich eaters arrived at OT.
Anyway, and obviously, my attention was grabbed this week by the Rooney saga. Just who has played a blinder is up for discussion and time will tell etc.. The reason Im writing this is just to add to the millions of words that have been written on R’ Wayne’s new contract. and about the passion that it has created.
Generally, I save my City bating activities for derby days and their usual mid season collapse. I just cant help taking pleasure from seeing City fans get all excited about the start of a new season just to see that diminish by, usually, Christmas.
This year, its different. This year we will start to see City re-emerge into the club it once was. The club that you could admire and respect instead of just laugh at. And, to be honest, its great.
It will be great to drop that stupid rivalry with the once great, spent force, Liverpool after all Everton are better. It will be great that the BIG games in the premiership will all be in Manchester - just a little Chelski thing to sort out first!
Anyway, back to the R Wayne saga. Its caught my attention like, obviously, an awful lot of others. Its fuelled the banter between the fans of the worlds richest club and the worlds best club. Its focused debate. Its probably done exactly what the PR people wanted it to do… five of the 8 sky sports stories online today are about Manchester United, the worlds most loved club.
