I look incredulous - which is a big word for a Greeny Boy! - when people complain about reality tv not being real. Of course it isn’t, they want you to watch it. Would, for example, you sit there every Saturday night to watch every average pub singer go through their paces - No.
Average isn’t interesting. That’s why the average pub singer isn’t on there, they have been weeded out in the pre tv process. Viewers of XFactor dont get to see those masses of crowds waiting to audition, they just see those that someone should have had a quite word with earlier who should have had pointed out that they had no singing talent and those that will get through to the next stage with the odd “maybe/maybe not” thrown in for suspense value.
I know that audiences for Big Brother are on the decline but they would be even worse without the oddballs, wanna be’s and social misfits that make up the contestants. I know how bored you would be if I was in there scratching the odd orifice, picking my nose, keeping myself to myself and just generally trying to live through the process…. yep even less viewers than now.
Maybe a good reason to volunteer!
